Does MetaDefender Drive have features to protect against malware or virus infection?

The MetaDefender Drive includes a protection mechanism which ensures that only official OPSWAT components, logs, and directories are permitted to reside on the device.

1. Protection During Boot Time

When the MetaDefender Drive is used to boot a machine into its secure environment, it performs an internal audit of its own file system:

  1. The Drive initiates a scan of its partitions to detect files, directories, or scripts that are not part of the original MetaDefender Drive and refuses to boot if the configuration scripts are altered.
  2. The system automatically removes any additional files copied to the NTFS partition, regardless of their origin or intent.
  3. Only authorized logs and configuration files are permitted to remain.

2. Protection via MD Drive Toolkit

When the Drive is connected to a running host to utilize the MD Drive Toolkit (for firmware updates or Drive management), a validation will also occurs:

  1. The Toolkit validates that the device is an authorized MetaDefender Drive hardware unit.
  2. The Toolkit audits the file system for unauthorized files written by the host OS.
  3. Any files that do not belong to the MetaDefender Drive partition are immediately deleted.
