Update Engines Using MetaDefender Kiosk
MetaDefender Drive engines can be updated directly via MetaDefender Kiosk. This integration enables users to update engines for MetaDefender Drives operating in isolated environments without internet or MetaDefender Drive Toolkit access.
The following steps walk you through setting up a MetaDefender Kiosk to perform engine updates:
The setup takes advantages from "Retrieve Files" feature that is available for the Employee Workflow in Kiosk. For more information about this, please refer to this material https://www.opswat.com/docs/mdkiosk/operating/retrieve-files
- From Workflows → Employee Workflow, Click Set Default Login Method.

Set Active Directory as the default login method
- Set the Default Login Method to Remote Active Directory.

Enable Active Directory login
Ensure to have the engines placed in
- an accessible (read-only permission is sufficient) local folder located at a defined path "../../updates/defs"
- or a network folder, accessible over SMB, SSH or similar protocols, and being mapped with a defined path like ../../shared/updates/defs
Under the employee workflow you set up, enable Retrieve Files, and set the Directory value to the path of the shared folder.

- Insert MetaDefender Drive into the configured MetaDefender Kiosk, and follow the instructions displayed
